Could technology be interfering with our ability to concentrate? Perhaps! Evidence suggests that 67% of us have a reduced ability to complete simple tasks after switching our attention between social media, smartphones, tablets, TV, or other media. 📺 Even a quick glimpse to check a Whatsapp message or watching an impressive dancing cat TikTok video in between tasks shows that it can take up to… 23 minutes to refocus after checking your phone! 🤳 In our age full of distraction, having the discipline to apply intentional focus to one task is one of the most valuable skills in our economy, but recently it has become increasingly rare. 💎 This is why it is a muscle that we need to work on daily! Especially, as it's not uncommon for our distraction devices to be the first thing we see in the morning and the last thing we see before closing our eyes at night. 😴 Cal Newport states in his book ‘Deep Work’ that for any of us “to produce at your peak level you need to work for extended periods with full concentration on a single task free from distraction.” This approach reduces anxiety and has the added benefit of feeling accomplished when completing a meaningful task. 🙌🏿 Here are a few mindful activities to exercise and restore your intentional focus: ✅ Daily Journaling ✅ Drawing or Painting ✅ Meditation ✅ Do a brain teaser or puzzle ✅ Use the Pomodoro Technique ✅ Read fiction or non-fiction books P.s. I’m talking about the brain… The theory is that people are either left-brained or right-brained, meaning that one side of their brain is more dominant than the other. Growing up I used to pride myself as a ‘lefty’ aka someone who leaned more towards a logical and critical approach. I even used to call myself Mr Knowledge! Yes, don’t judge me, it was my self-assigned poker pseudonym… (because knowledge was power… cringe!) 😅 Studies show that many companies seem to have a strong leaning towards lefty’s in the workplace - Of course it makes ‘rational’ sense, as this approach is highly structured and analytical which can be clearly objectified and backed with statistical data to corroborate any findings. 📊 Even though this data-driven decision making is ideal for efficiency and productivity, it can alienate those employees who prefer to ‘feel’ their way around problems with tacit knowledge, which relies on a more holistic or nuanced approach for discernment with intuitive pattern recognition and trusting your gut. 🤔 Characteristic of right brain thinkers: ✅ Creative & artistic ✅ Free thinker ✅ Imaginative ✅ Guided by feeling and intuition ✅ High emotional intelligence ✅ Visual spatial learner Not a natural right side of the brain thinker? Why not try these methods to exercise your muscle: 👉 Practice mindful activities, like yoga or art or dance. 👉 Try using your non-dominant hand for writing. 👉 Breathing through your left nostril, this can also help to activate your right brain. Many of the @Ernst and Young Team had not painted in years and this meant the initial fear and anxiety from seeing a blank canvas was clear to see. 😐 ...but after a few brush strokes and a several cheeky sips 🍷😛 the over critical voice of self judgement began the melt away and the team were quick to get into the 'creative flow state'. 🧘‍♀️ ART like business is not a straightforward process... there are many crucial stages in-between before you get a glimpse of any positive results. 📈 Yes, it's true EVERY single masterpiece usually goes through bit of a slightly awkward and uncomfortable stage - We like to call it the 'ugly duckling phase' before you get to the 'glow up phase'. 🤩🖼 This is why our #OneRule is No Judgement!!! It’s not a secret that confidence is a huge asset. It boosts motivation and resilience and reduces stress and anxiety, all of which accelerate academic and professional success, whilst boosting personal growth. 📈 So why do we all seem to lack confidence in our abilities? When hosting the team at Sanofi we asked if anyone was feeling either anxious or nervous at painting the ‘BEE-utiful Bee’ artwork and it was no surprise when about 80% of the participants in the room raised their hand very tentatively. 💁‍♂️ Growing up our teachers, friends, siblings, parents, and even the media send us positive and negative messages about ourselves. For some reason, the message that ‘you are not good enough’ is the one that stays with us through the years. When our confidence is low, we slip into negative self-talk. Our inner dialogue becomes clouded with doubts and judgements, sabotaging us from the inside out. 😑 Painting is a great way to challenge these initial thoughts and perceptions about ourselves and through our step-by-step creative process we are able to change the narrative that has been created in our own minds. 🧠 Confidence can shape the way we communicate and navigate in the real world, so there is no bigger reward to watch our guests go from... “I cant paint”…to “I can’t believe I made this!” 🙌🏆 #CreativeConfidence #TeamSocial #MentalHealth #CorporateWellbeing #ArtSippersChallenge

Before all the madness... safe to say we didn't look like this at the end!🤪 Notting Hill Carnival has always been such a positive uplifting vibe. 💕 As seen earlier we joined the NHC j'ouvert early on Sunday morning for the crazy paint powder party! This was completely free, you just bring your paints and don't wear your best! 😅 #BabyWiiiipes Around 11am we joined a mas band. This is where you can follow a float and 'play mas' along the kaleidoscopic parade route at Carnival. Great if you want to dance the whole route without getting stuck in the thick of the crowds and want unlimited sips.🥃 We joined 'Tears Mas' this year and anyone from the general public can get involved. Usually from £30-£90 depending on the bundle you get.😉 Carnival Monday hosts the biggest parties, so we decided to head to the soundsystems. These are static stages dotted on every corner around the whole area, hosting an array of live performance and DJ sets. 🙌🎵 Whether you like old-school reggae, bashment, hip hop, funk, Latin, gospel, soulful house, ska or rock-n-roll... there's a soundsystem for you that will get your body moving. ALL FREE. 🕺 85,000 steps later... we ended the weekend with some traditional carribean food - Jerk chicken, rice & peas.😍🍗 #FingerLickin If you have ever though t about heading to the carnival... but thought "I'm not the carnival type" people tell us the same thing about art "I'm not the creative type" 🎨🖌 So that is why we say just give it a try... or F*%k IT! After two plus years of online events... It was sooo good to finally meetup in the flesh with one of our fave sippers @kit_kat_cupcake🤗 🍫 We actually pinched each other to check that we were real. 😅 Kit-Kat has pretty much painted every night with us since the third virtual show we did back in 2020!
