A TREE-mendous commission for Google! 🌳

When Commission Meets Collaboration

If you've been following our journey with corporate commissions, you might remember the first Google project - six massive colour-in style canvases that the team painted and filled in together. It was bold, it was fun, and apparently, they wanted more! This time? They came back with a concept that perfectly captures what collaborative art is really about.

The Brief: A Team Tree with Hundreds of Leaves

Google wanted a large-scale bare tree mural. But here's the twist - they didn't want us to paint the leaves. They wanted every single team member to add their own fingerprint to create the foliage. Hundreds of unique prints. One unified team tree!

The Creative Challenge

Our job was deceptively simple: create the foundation that makes this collaboration canvas possible.

The requirements:

  • Make the Google logo pop (those iconic colours needed to shine)

  • Keep the tree deliberately minimal

  • Design it so every fingerprint - from the first to the hundredth - has space to stand out

The Weirdest Part? Handing Over "Unfinished" Art

We won't lie - it always feels strange delivering a half-finished canvas. As artists, we're wired to complete things, to add that final flourish. But our collaborative canvases flip that script entirely. The canvas leaves our studio incomplete because completion isn't our job, that job belongs to the Google team.

Why Collaborative Commissions Work

There's something powerful about physical, collaborative creation in our increasingly digital world.

When team members add their fingerprint to that tree:

  • They're not passive participants - they're co-creators

  • They're not just attending an event - they're leaving a memory

  • They're not just part of a company - they're visibly part of something bigger

The final mural won't just hang on a wall. It'll tell a story: "We made this. Together. Every single one of us is here."

From Concept to Canvas: How Bespoke Commissions Work

Every organisation is different. Maybe you want your company mascot painted collaboratively. Perhaps it's your business logo reimagined in paint. Or maybe, like Google, you have a completely unique concept in mind.

The process:

  1. You share your vision

  2. We design a concept that brings it to life

  3. We create the foundation

  4. Your team completes the masterpiece

We've done colour-in canvases, fingerprint murals, puzzle paintings, and everything in between. The art form doesn't matter - what matters is creating something that genuinely reflects your team's identity.

Beyond the Brushstrokes

Here's what collaborative commissions aren't: they're not just "team building exercises" to tick a box. They're not about the free drinks or the Instagram photos (though those are nice bonuses).

They're about giving your team permission to be creative, to contribute something tangible, and to see their individual mark become part of a bigger picture. Literally.

When that Google tree is complete - covered in hundreds of colourful fingerprint leaves - it won't just be artwork. It'll be proof that when you give people the space and framework to create together, something remarkable happens.
